School Begins! 1st Grade with Uncle Abe...(Mr. Yospe)

Uhhh how did this day already arrive? My first baby in first grade? Well, it's true. She stayed at the same school where she went to kindergarten, and the exciting thing is that she made it into the ALPS Program. (Advanced learning placement system) That means that she is in her Uncle Abe's class! How cool is that?? He's excited, we're excited, it's bound to be a good year.

Before school started, Cami got to go to Back to School night to meet her teacher (haha) and see her classroom. He had decorated it really cute with a Minion theme. What kid wouldn't be excited about that? She was also excited about sitting at a desk across from her kindergarten and soccer team buddy, Beckett!

To kick off the school year, I tried to hold a nice Back to School Feast, per Nie Nie's tradition. I decided I always set my expectations too high and set myself up for disappointment. But I tried, and at least we had a nice meal, regardless of whether the crowns or hours of cooking were appreciated. :)

Cami's favorite meal (used to be) pork ribs with asian slaw, so that's what we had. With rice and corn on the cob. Clearly, the kids were thrilled. Next year, I might re-think this "tradition". Baha.

On the day that school started for the rest of the school, the first graders had a little orientation with parents, and got to fill out an "all about me" sheet and learn some of the rules for the year.

And finally, the first day arrived! Cam, looking adorable, was ready to sieze the day!

Yay for First Grade!

 Every morning, Jake drives her to school on his way to work. He walked her to the line and they waited excitedly for Abe to come out and start the day.

 

Of course, she LOVED her first day. She loves having Mr. Yospe as her teacher, and it's so fun to see him at school in his element, doing what he loves.

Every day after school, Lexi and I park behind the school in a neighborhood side street, walk down a path to the school grounds, and meet Cami on the basketball court. It's so fun to see her little teeny body carrying that huge backpack running towards me into my arms! I scoop her up and give her a big hug and kiss her soft little cheek and ask about her day. I will continue doing this as long as she lets me! Because I know it won't last. That's little Beckett behind her.

So happy for this cute First Grader! She continues to be our little Super Reader, is making new friends, laughing at all of Mr. Yospe's characters and antics, learning lots and lovin life.
