They enjoyed an afternoon of swimming and giggling, as most young girls would.
After a lovely time, the little girl and her mom and sister embarked further on their journey to find the house of Nie Nie. It was found in Provo, high up on a hill. Mission accomplished, Mom thought.
Because of this little endeavor, the little girl spotted a playground near BYU campus, and asked if they could stop and play. "Why not?" Mom replied. The two excited sisters ran off to play, while Mom watched and got out her phone to take a video of her little monkey. The girl had already successfully gone across these unusually high, twisty monkey bars once, and was on her way back a second time. Suddenly, she dangled from one little arm, and then dropped to the ground, landing on her bum, back, and hands. Immediately, she cried out in pain. Mom rushed over to help her up and over to a bench. She thought maybe her little monkey would feel better in a minute, for perhaps it was just momentary discomfort.
But alas, it was not just momentary. The little girl begged to leave the playground, and whimpered and cried her way into her carseat. Mom fastened the straps and gave her a sucker to help her feel better. But the look of pain and agony never left her pale face, and she drifted off to sleep without even touching her beloved candy.
Mom consulted with Dad on the phone, and decided that a visit to Instacare was in order. The little girl perked up a little after her nap, and went through the motions of getting checked out while trying to be brave.
She had long, beautiful locks, mind you.
But lo and behold, after the results of the X-ray came through, they were told that it was indeed a fracture. A torus fracture of the distal radius. The bone buckled and bulged, even though it was hard to tell.
So the little lass got a splint, and was told to wear it for a week until she could get a beautiful cast.
It made her look tough, and she knew it.
The day arrived when a cast would be made. Ohh the possibilities! What color would she choose??
But ohhh the nerves! This is her body's nervous position.
And so it began. The wrapping of the cast by a funny man at her pediatrician's office.
What a lovely blue it turned out to be!
But WAIT. There was a problem. It seemed a bit too tight. The man hemmed and hawed and finally decided to saw it open to loosen it. That meant it needed re-wrapping. But oh no, what was this?? There was NO more light blue. This poor little girl was forced to choose....
Pink.
Hmmmm seemed to have been a bit bigger and bulkier now. The girl's arm felt heavy and weighed down. But she was determined to make the most of it. Come one come all, to sign the cast!
Her sister, Lexi, signed her name, as well as their pet fish's name....Elsa. Since Elsa has not an arm, but only a fin.And so she went on her way, collecting signatures on her cast day by day.
To be continued....(to 4 weeks later when she gets it removed).
